Unless you are living under a rock or don’t go on Facebook or Twitter, (but I doubt since you are reading my blog about Social Media) you have had to have gotten a glimpse of the Shit People Say videos by now. At first thought it was funny and clever and didn’t think much more about it. But today after reading this Gawker post titled, No We Will Not Watch Your Shit People Say Video, I was prompted to take a deeper look at this meme.
I was enthralled to see how many different videos there actually are. I must have watched 50 and some of them were very funny. Not only is this an example of a viral engagement, but it is also an example of how powerful an Internet trend can be.
I was also happily surprised to see two major companies jumping into the game. The popular wedding site, TheKnot.com and Yoga giant, LuluLemon both created fun videos. They are successful because they relate to their target audience, they ride on an existing trend and they are shareable content. Both of these videos also got a lot of views and comments. Views + Comments = Engagement! By doing this these two brands were able to reach a larger audience, brand themselves and score major points!

4. Shit Sorority Girls Say – A little Delta Delta Delta love on this one.
5. Shit Jewish Mothers Say – I love you Mom!
